Katie Zorn

Katie Zorn was born and raised on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. After graduating from New York University she started her fashion career in public relations for Bill Blass and Michael Kors. I found myself hanging around the designer’s offices, watching them work and then going home and sketching my own designs.


Taking that passion to the next level, Katie enrolled at Parsons School of Design. In 2001, she moved to Paris to start the program, subsequently completing her degree in New York. Her dream was always to dress the modern woman in the classic tradition of chic, clean, American sportswear but with what she describes as a European twist, with original dressmaker details and strong cuts.


In 2004, Katie Zorn started her own ready-to-wear line. That same year, she was nominated as one of the final five designers in Gen Art’s International Style Competition for Ready-to-Wear. In September 2004 she participated with Gen Art again, giving a runway presentation as one of eight Fresh Faces of Fashion.


Zorn says she designs for women who want to feel elegant and chic in clothes that compliment their personality and lifestyle. My typical customer’s fashion aim is to look sophisticated and smart, but without compromising sex appeal. There is great allure in this dual look. I design what I would wear myself.


Zorn credits her love of New York as an important inspiration. You cannot be a New Yorker without observing the life around you, including the geometry and sculptural quality of the city’s architecture along with its energy.>


She also draws inspiration closer to home. Her grandfather, an artist, taught her an appreciation of the angles of the human face and body. However, it was from watching her mother dress that Zorn first learned about quality of clothing, fit, material and design. We are the same size so I borrowed her designer clothes and could tell the importance of fit and material.


Zorn’s designs have been singled out by the fashion press. She has been featured in The New York Times, Women’s Wear Daily, W, Lucky, Elegant Bride, Quest, Absolute Magazine and Daily Candy, among others. Her fall/winter 2007 Collection received a strong review in WWD.
